3 Steps To Being Exceptional

Many people flippantly babble on about all the great things they are going to achieve in their lives but, without a focused pursuit, it is impossible to achieve them.

Certainly, we all need a tangible vision to fulfill, an attainable goal to pursue, and personal dreams to achieve. Yet these are worthless if all we do is sit around the neighborhood coffee shop and talk about them. Please don’t misunderstand me; I’ve been guilty of doing this very thing. At times, I’ve chattered on and on about dreams I’ve wanted to see fulfilled, without ever doing anything to make them happen. With every dream, however, there comes a moment in which action must be taken.

As you get started on your action plan, begin by laying the preliminary bricks of the building. I’ve formulated three easy steps that are sure to guarantee being exceptional. Here they are…

1. Know where you are going.

Have you ever heard the old adage: “If you don’t know where you are going, all roads will take you there”? How true that is! Most people have no plan and, therefore, no idea where they are going, let alone how to get there.

Keep in mind, personal growth doesn’t happen involuntarily. It takes a life-altering effort. It requires a firm commitment to pursue excellence in every area of life. I like to say it like this: You are either the prisoner of your past or the pioneer of your future.

Knowing where you are going helps you to clearly understand what areas of life you need to change. You must target your dream with the accuracy of a sharpshooter aiming for the bull’s eye! Attain all the skills necessary to become the person you need to become. Unlike those who will continue to drift along with the prevailing currents, why not make a distinguishing decision today? Choose to resolutely establish where you are going, determining to reach the highest levels of excellence along the way.

2. Determine to reach the next level of excellence.

Achieving distinction won’t require much – just everything you have! (Don’t say I didn’t warn you!) Why not set your sights today and resolutely determine to reach the next level of excellence, by means of an unwavering effort? Put a stake in the ground and refuse to retreat from your claim.

3. Refuse to embrace mediocrity.

Why allow mediocrity to have any further link to your life? To win in any endeavor, you have to fight mediocrity day and night. You have to go against the tide in which so many others are ensnared. Hold on to the standards by which you live, doing whatever it takes to grow as a person, as well as helping others to do the same. Whatever you do, refuse mediocrity at all costs.
